How to get there

From Rio Gallegos (Province of Santa Cruz)
Paved route by which you must travel from Rio Gallegos to El Calafate. Take the National Route 3, Provincial Route 5, National Route 40 and finally Provincial Route number 11.

Border crossings to Chile:

Paso Cancha Carrera
This path is only enabled in the festive period (December to March) and allows access from El Calafate, traveling 286 kilometers along the National Route N º 40, then crossing the customs to the area of Cerro Castillo, addressing to the south it will take you to Puerto Natales in Chile.

Paso los Baguales or Paso Oriental
This is a dirt road, which has to be crossed by walk or horse-riding.
Located 1.287 meters above sea level, this path is only accessible on foot or on horseback, and only in summer season because of its height, that is to say the snow.

How to get there by bus?

By Bus from Rio Gallegos, the journey lasts four hours or from the city of Puerto Natales, Chile, just five hours.

How to get on an airplane?

By plane directly to El Calafate International Airport from major cities in the country. The only airline that has regular flights is Aerolineas Argentinas, several days a week.

Access to Perito Moreno from El Calafate

Perito Moreno Glacier is located opposite to the Magallanes Peninsula, about 80 kilometers from El Calafate village. Spread over the South Branch of Lago Argentino, to reach it must take the 11 t Provincial Route that connects the town to Punta Bandera, and then a few kilometers down the road to the Magallanes Peninsula, where paths are placed against the catwalk glacier. It has front five kilometers long and sixty feet high, and it is considered one of the most imposing glaciers in the world.

Access to El Chatén from El Calafate

It can only be reached by car or bus along Provincial Route 11, and continuing along the National Route 40 and Provincial Route number 23, which ends in Lago del Desierto. The trip takes four hours along a path that is mostly gravel, with an obligatory stop at the middle of the way at La Leona (at the shore of the river of the same name) or the Luz Divina stay.
