This protected area of 600,000 is covered by a mantle of ice or glacial mass. Among the 356 glaciers, Perito Moreno is the most impressive one. Its front side is 5 kilometers and it has a height that is over 60 meters above the water.

It is precisely worldwide known because the front side of the glacier breaks into pieces. When the glacier arrives to the coast edge, it blocks the flow of Brazo Rico waters producing an uneven closed area of 20 meters deep. This process creates a leak that ends in the so expected fracture of it.

The last time it happened was in March of the year 2006. The spectacle does not finish. Being very near, it is possible to see how enormous pieces of ice come apart and hear the deafening noise that they make when they fall down onto the water. Afterwards they turn into marvellous floating icebergs.
